Two nuns from the Vatican have just arrived in Chicago for a conclave and are walking through O’Hare. Spotting a hot dog stand, the novitiate says to her Mother Superior in Italian “I hear that the occupants of this country actually eat dogs and that Chicago makes the very best dogs.” The elder sister replies, “Then I suppose we should try one.” They approach the vendor and hold up two fingers. He hands them each a foil wrapped packet. Excited, they hurry to a table and unwrap their first American meals. Staring at hers for a moment, the younger nun giggles, leans over and whispers “What part did you get?”

“…Rumors are that the man who delivers Denver’s best gourmet hot dogs from a cart at 16th and Arapahoe streets, Jim Pittenger of Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs, will set up shop at Argonaut Liquors. Voted one of the best places to eat in Denver, it’s a hot dog cart serving one-of-a-kind links made from pheasant, reindeer, rattlesnake, buffalo and other meats. Look for him this weekend at Argonaut or find him today in his usual location.”

We have 2 carts now. The original is located at 16th and Arapahoe Street (map) downtown. Just across the street from the big clock tower on the 16th Street Mall. We show up at about 10am and get started. It takes probably a half hour to get set up and that first pan of onions going. We can probably get you a dog cooking with all the stuff by about 10:30 or 10:45. We hang out until at least 3 in the winter time and at least 4 when it warms up. Speaking of winter, if we aren’t going to be at least in the 30’s that day…we’re probably not coming out. We don’t usually feel like hanging out in the cold all by ourselves.

The 2nd location is at 17th and California Street. The schedule there is pretty much the same as at the other location, except on Fridays when you can find us at Argonaut. We usually start shutting down here around 2pm.

You’ll also find us Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at Argonaut Liquors at 770 E. Colfax. We show up around 11 and cook until 6 or 7. Maybe later once it warms up some more.
